Motion
I am passionate about going beyond photography to explore storytelling through motion. Filmmaking allows me to create layered sensory and emotional experiences using movement, language, audio, and atmosphere.
I'm From Diyin Dine'e
Total run time: 4:35
HD video, stereo
This short film is about my experience growing up in a church, a place that I felt held me back from my true self, I felt disconnected from my Diné identity, our home was broken because of alcoholism and gang violence. I escaped by joining the military, when I returned home after two tours my life was more chaotic than ever. I didn't see a way forward. The support of my family and becoming a mother both started my journey to traditional healing. Through family, ceremony, attending a Tribal College, and self determination I rediscovered the path of hózhó once again. My parents choices were based on their own experiences through boarding school and their own battles with different forms of colonization. By actively re-claiming our language and culture we change the trajectory for ourselves and future generations.
